aha! here's one we can all bitch and complain about - the price of gas. as i was driving home from work tonight i looked at all the gas stations on the way. mind you, work is on side of town and my house is on the other - and the bulk of the gas stations are all on the same street. the cheapest of the cheap gas (regular unleaded) is $3.04/gallon. i find this utterly ridiculous. exactly one month ago, gas was $2.64/gallon. what the fuck has happened in the last month that would cause it to go up 40 cents, that's what i'd like to know. and don't give me any bullshit about OPEC. of course, they should be on anyone's shit list, but one can rest assured that they are not the sole source of our gasoline woes. there can be no decent explanation other than 'some people' are money grubbing bastards who don't have to worry about how much they're hurting the rest of the country, because they either have more than enough money to pay the price - or someone else is footing the bill (taxpayers). perhaps if we weren't financing a war for someone else's oil, we could be more concerned with our own. not only do we have plenty of oil reserves, we also have plenty of refineries. except for the fact that many of those refineries are too busy providing jet fuel for a war we didn't necessarily want to be in in the first place.

so anyway, how much is gas where you live?
maxnmike
The lowest is $3.09, the highest is $3.32 right across the street from each other.
maxnmike
And now the range is $3.15 - $3.42. Fucking oil companies need to die.
robroy
Just dropped today from $3.00 to $2.90 here
Most of the gas stations here drop at the same time, those in town at least. The ones located out of town are 10 - 15 cents more expensive.

ok, where do you live? im moving there. i drive a honda civic (one of the fuel efficient ones) and from empty, i dropped $40 at the gas pump the other night. i was less than pleased. the ford escape we have (and were filling at the same time at the pump on the other side of the honda) came to about $52, i think. i was too depressed to pay that much attention.
maxnmike
And now it's $3.23
maxnmike
And now, $3.29.
sin
today it changed to $3.29 here too.
sin
ok, what kind of bullshit is this? Gas prices hit a new record at the pump.

QUOTE
The average national price of a gallon of gas hit $3.073 on Monday, up almost a penny from Sunday's also record-setting price, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. Gasoline is now well above the previous record of $3.057, set on Sept. 5, 2005, soon after Hurricane Katrina.

where the hell do these people live? i sure wish i only had to pay $3.05 a gallon... (note previous post where i said that gas prices are up to $3.29 a gallon here - and thats for the 'cheap' unleaded.)
sin
and yesterday they went up to $3.35 a gallon... the town 40 miles south of us still has gas at $3.19, so justin took the honda this morning to fill it up there.

i watched this video, by abc news, and somehow it still doesnt seem to explain the reasonings behind such high gas prices 'all of a sudden' hitting our economy. tell me, how 30 of 129 supposed outages in april have that much of an impact now, by raising the price of gas almost an entire dollar per gallon in less than a 3 week time period...

sin
gas has now moved up to $3.47/gallon.

NEW UNIVERSAL SIGN FOR GASOLINE:

robroy
lol that is funny
gas is 3.09 here atm, I guess it will sneak up again
sin
update: gas actually went DOWN!! it first went up to $3.49 and now is back down to $3.39... we'll see how long this lasts. especially with memorial day weekend coming up. i did read an interesting article at Yahoo! News today, regarding possible legislation being passed in the Senate and House to enact prosecution of those who are price-gouging gas.

House OKs gas price gouging penalties

robroy
still $3.09 here, been stable at that for a couple of weeks
Virginia is even cheaper (at least the area close to me) at $2.99
