Closet Forums _ what do you think about ... _ Recruiting Games

oh my fucking god, youve GOT to be kidding me. i cant say that i didnt see something like this coming but this is complete and total bullshit if you ask me, which no one has.

the united states military has come up with the bright idea of making a 'war game' that entices young people to join up. after our own family experience with shady recruiting deals, this comes as a complete blow to me.

the US army has designed (or commisioned the design of) a computer game that is proposed to attract new soldiers (preferrably between 17-24 years old). the catch in playing this particular game is that you have to consent to being contacted by military recruiters.

bullshit story is here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070421/tc_afp/usitinternetgame_070421160108

as a note, my cousin was recently recruited by the army national guard. while i am a strong supporter of our troops i am not, by any means, a supporter of any politician - especially the ones currently in office. what they didnt tell my cousin when he signed up is that he was actually joining the REGULAR army, not the national guard. our local recruiting office is known for its shady deals and improperly filled out paperwork. they sucker young vulnerable kids into signing up, and then go 'oh, by the way, have fun at the army boot camp. you didnt just sign up for the national guard. kthx.'

two days after he graduated from boot camp, my cousin received his orders to ship out to iraq. he was to leave in 13 days and was not allowed to come home or to have his family come visit during those 13 days. he left on easter sunday. i havent heard from/about him since. also, hes only 22 years old.

There is an ad on tv that kind of gives that idea, and I thought that the game wouldn't be far away. That is a bullshit way to get people to join up.
